The son of a Pearl Harbor Survivor, David A. Manzi was born on a Naval base in Patuxent River, Maryland. When his father retired after 20 years of service, the family settled in New Haven, Connecticut. As a second generation immigrant, David learned early the value of hard work and determination, especially from his Grandfather who had come to the United States alone at the age of 18. While in attending Notre Dame High School, David obtained a part-time job at Yale University’s Computer Center.
Following his high school graduation, David continued to work for Yale while attending Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. After obtaining his B.S. in Business Administration, David went on to pursue a M.S. in Computer and Information Science at the University of New Haven, while working full-time at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Connecticut as a Computer Analyst. It was at Blue Cross and Blue Shield that David met his wife, Patricia, and they were married in 1980. Shortly after their marriage, David obtained a position with AT&T and he and Patricia began a 15 year journey that would bring them for a short time to New Jersey and eventually to San Diego, California.
While David enjoyed the work he was doing with AT&T, he always felt that there was something more beneficial he could do with his working life. David decided that he wanted to go back to school and become a lawyer. David attended the University of San Diego Law School, while still working full-time for AT&T. The lessons he had learned at an early age made it possible for him to maintain a balance in this life. Although it was a very hectic schedule. David was able to achieve a good academic record at USD, be successful in his work at AT&T and most importantly enjoy a full life with Patricia and their circle of friends.
After obtaining his J.D. from USD, David left AT&T and went to work for a small boutique law firm in San Diego. From the beginning, David’s legal career involved civil litigation on the side of the injured and aggrieved. For over 25 years, David represented individuals in almost every aspect of daily life, including auto accidents, medical malpractice, insurance disputes, wrongful deaths and personal injuries in general.
In the mid-1990’s, David and Patricia decided to move back to the east coast to be closer to their families and settled in Charlotte, North Carolina. David obtained his license to practice law in North Carolina in 1996. David first obtained an attorney position with a small plaintiffs’ firm where he continued to represent those who through no fault of their own had been injured. In 2007, David established his own firm. Given the close proximity of the Charlotte area to the upper state of South Carolina. In 2009, David passed the South Carolina Bar exam and obtained his license to practice in South Carolina.
In 2011, David and Patricia built a second home in Beaufort County, South Carolina to be closer to his daughter and their two grandchildren, who live in Charleston. It was while in the Beaufort area, David met Bennett Schiller and was extremely impressed with the firm that Bennett and Joel Hamilton had built serving the people of South Carolina, and wanted to be a part of that success. David’s partnership with the Schiller & Hamilton team provides him with the unique opportunity to serve the people of the South Carolina’s low country, Upper State and the Charlotte area of North Carolina. David splits his time between the firm’s Rock Hill and Beaufort offices. An avid football fan, David also enjoys golf and boating.
