Who Is J.R. Yates?
J.R. Yates is a military attorney, also known as a jag officer, who previously worked with the Schiller & Hamilton Law Firm before joining the Air Force. He joined the firm while still in officer training school and mostly handled social security disability and construction litigation cases. In 2016, Yates went on active-duty orders, and recently moved back to Rock Hill after his wife retired. As a jag officer, Yates was responsible for advising commanders on legal matters, interpreting rules and regulations that airmen must follow, and handling criminal trials in court martial cases. J.R. Yates’ friend who was an officer in the Air Force inspired them to become a jag officer. Yates briefly explains that there are different types of jags, such as those who handle prosecution or defense on the criminal side and those who handle family disputes.
